Codiaeum: Care & facts

Below all the basics to take care of the Codiaeum. Good luck!

How much water does the Codiaeum need?

The Croton needs an average amount of water. Exactly how much water you need to give depends on where your plant is located, how much light falls on that location, how humid the air is around the plant, how big the plant is and what kind of pot the plant is in. That is why it is always best to check with your finger.

Plants with an average thirst may dry out up to 50%. Stick your finger in the soil (or use a water meter), do you feel wetness before you reach the center of the pot? Then it is best to wait a while before watering again.

How much light does the Codiaeum need?

This plant likes a lot of indirect light. Therefore, the best place for this plant is near a window facing the East or West.

How often should the Codiaeum be fed?

It is best to only feed the Croton when you see that it is in active growth. This is the case when new, young leaves keep appearing. Usually this happens in the warmer months of the year but with some plants, depending on their situation, it can be all year round.

With active growth you can feed the Codiaeum every 2 weeks. We recommend organic and natural food in granular form. Granules release food slowly and for a very long time, unlike liquid food, and therefore only need to be added to your plant once or twice a year.

How can you propagate the Codiaeum cuttings?

The Croton can be propagated by cutting off the top of the plant and allowing it to take root in water or soil.

Is the Codiaeum air-purifying?

The Croton is not air purifying.

Is the Codiaeum poisonous to animals?

The Croton is not poisonous to animals. Totally safe for you and your fluffy pooch!
